5 Ways You Can Help Revitalize Congress

Congress needs help. Our governing process is failing to function: less than 2% of the bills originating in the House of Representatives actually become law. The solution? A fundamental overhaul that reforms Congress, making it more accountable to the American people.

While Congress has already taken a step forward towards implementing this change with the Joint Select Committee on Budget and Appropriations Process Reform to get the budget process in order, it’s critical to build on this effort by establishing the Joint Committee on the Organization of Congress to bring about broader transformational change.

But this change doesn’t start at the institutional level—it starts at the grassroots level in towns and cities across America. Here’s what you can do to take action and demand change from your member of Congress:

  1. Tweet your member of Congress and encourage your friends to join along.
  2. Write a letter or email to your member of Congress showing your support for the Joint Committee on the Organization of Congress.
  3. Call your member of Congress’ district office to request a meeting with your member during August recess.
  4. Follow your member of Congress’ newsletter or your local newspaper to find out if your member of Congress is hosting a townhall, tele-townhall, or event in your district.
  5. Request a meeting with a staff member in your member of Congress’ district office.
